John C. Pleis, 95, of Fayette, Iowa, died Saturday morning, June 12, 2021, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa with Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating

Visitation: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Interment: 2 p.m. Thursday at the Allison Cemetery in Allison, Iowa with military honors.

Memorials may be directed in his name to St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington.

John Conrad Pleis was born May 25, 1926, in Allison, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Tracy (Schrage) Pleis.  He graduated from Fairbank Public School.  John proudly served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947.  

On January 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Clara Bissell.  John was a longtime farmer in the Arlington area.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, where he served on church council, call committee, and served as usher.  He was also a member of the Fayette American Legion Post #339 of Fayette.  John enjoyed dancing, playing cards and carpentry.

John is survived by his wife: Clara Pleis of Fayette; 3 daughters: Lillian (Jim) Novak of Oelwein; Shirley (Jim) Thompson of Gladbrook and

Jane (Dick) Wells of Arlington;

3 grandchildren; Julie (Nathan) Westendorf, Heather (Chris) Morden and Casey (Tricia) Wells; 5 great grandchildren: Macy, Kyla and Kenna Westendorf and Jayden and Delaney Wells; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Aaron Novak in 2013; siblings: Herman Pleis, Abel Pleis, Fred (Lorraine) Pleis, Tom Pleis, Louise (Ernest) Reiter, Ettalena (Otto) Hein, Jake (Norma) Pleis, Maebena (Clarence) Klenzmann; niece: Karen Bachman; 3 nephews: Roger Hein, Delbert Volker and Al Bachman; and great niece: Crystal.
