Arlene Margaret Bodensteiner, 89, of West Union, Iowa died on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. Arlene Margaret Reicks was born March 3, 1930 in St. Lucas to James Reicks and Eleanor (Busche) Reicks. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and graduated high school in 1948.

Susan Marie (Loterbour) Paige, age 68, of Ely, passed away at her home in Ely on April 23, 2019.  Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 27, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Visitation was one hour prior to the services Saturday at the Church.   

Susan Marie Loterbour was born on October 25, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa to Alan and Dorothy (Arnold) Loterbour.  She graduated from North High School in West Union, Iowa in 1968 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.

On September 5, 1970 she was united in marriage to Brent Paige in West Union.  The couple made their home in the Cedar Rapids area until they moved to Ely in the 1970s.  To this union two sons were born, Matthew Michael Paige and Edward (Ted) Alan Paige.

Susan was an avid horseperson for many years, enjoying her horses Blaze and Blaze II.

Clarence Victor Kuennen, age 95, of St. Lucas passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the Ossian Senior Hospice surrounded by his family. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA with Rev. Aaron Junge presiding.  Burial was in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA and also after 10:00 a.m. at the Church on Monday morning.  The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is handling arrangements.

Sharil Mae Ogle, 83, of Wadena, Iowa died Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.  She was born June 25, 1935 to Clyde and Beulah (Ferguson) Ramsey in Marshalltown, Iowa. Sharil was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa. After graduating high school, she attended Upper Iowa and earned her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and History.

Beverly M. Hinsenbrock, 83, of Clermont, Iowa died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by family.  She was born June 6, 1935 at home in Greeley Iowa.  Beverly grew up in Greeley and Guttenberg.  Her love of horses began early when she lived in Greeley and would go down the road and beg rides on the draft horses from the Hoberts, who had a large draft horse operation. Beverly passed on her love of horses to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom are active in rodeoing and riding horses.  Beverly was also active in sports and played basketball at Guttenberg High School.  She was the start of four generations of her daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughter playing girls’ basketball.

Ramona “Kay” Darnell Dempsey, 81, of West Union, Iowa went home on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.

Kay was born on February 3, 1938 in rural Fayette County to Vern and Evelyn Darnell. She grew up in West Union and graduated from West Union High School in 1956. After graduation, Kay attended Iowa State Teachers for a year before enlisting in the Women’s Army Corp where she met and married David Dempsey. They lived in Rahway, New Jersey and brought into this world four children named Dana, Lisa, Theresa and Chris.

In 1976, after a divorce, Kay and her children moved from Rahway, New Jersey to West Union, Iowa. And that July, Kay began working at the Town House Café in West Union where she worked for over thirty years.

Gayle (Crandall) Fisher, 64, passed away with courage on March 31, 2019, at the University of Minnesota Hospital.

Gayle Ann Crandall was born July 20, 1954, in West Union, Iowa to her parents Ronald and Donna Crandall. She graduated from North Fayette High School in West Union in 1972, and attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls pursing degrees in science/nutrition and art. In 1991, she received a degree with honors in commercial art and graphic design from Alexandria Technical and Community College in Alexandria, Minnesota.

Gayle married Tom Fisher on September 12, 1992 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  They made Minnesota their home and lived on Lake Darling in Alexandria, Minnesota and Pine Lake in Rush City, Minnesota. Gayle was passionate about the outdoors, art, cooking, and life. Her love of nature and observation of animal life captured her imagination and wit.  She was a beautiful soul.

Kelly L. Peck, 56, of Decorah, Iowa and formerly of Waukon and Ossian died peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, April 13, 2019.

Celebration of Life:  2:00 p.m.. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Phelps Park, Shelter #1 on Park Street in Decorah, Iowa with Pastor Dave Lenth leading the remembrance.  

Family and friends will continue to share memories at The Hay Market in Decorah following the service.

Our brother, uncle and friend, Richard Forde Sand, died March 4, 2019, in his California home. He was born January 28, 1935, to the late Nanfred and Sylvia Forde Sand. He is survived by his brother, Jake; sisters Helen Sand Schaffer (Dean); Marge Golden (Tom); Janet Pinch, and Elaine Evans (Bob). Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Verna (Bob) and Carol (Bud). Other very special survivors are his nephews, nieces and their children. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Bob, Greg and Bud, his sister Shirley Brainard, brother-in-law, Dean Schaeffer, John Brainard and nephew Bradley Brainard.

Richard graduated from Ossian Public High School in 1953, and the University of Iowa School of Pharmacy in 1958. Graduate work was achieved at USC in California.

Ronald H. Glass, 86, of Maynard, Iowa died Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

 

Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Dennis Frank officiating.

Visitation was held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Interment was in the Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa with military honors by the Lundbye-Carpenter American Legion Post #245 of Maynard.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa Chapter, 317 7th Avenue SE, #402, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.
