Charles Ash

Charles J. Ash, 65, of Fayette died Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

 

Memorial Services was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette with Rev. Mike Jager officiating. Inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Gods Acres Cemetery in Clermont. Visitation will precede the memorial service at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. Donna Daniels

On Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, Donna Louise Atkinson Daniels, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 88. 

Donna was born Nov. 28, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo., to Don and Eva Atkinson. 

She received her bachelor degree in Home Economics from the University of Iowa.

On Aug. 16,1952, she married Robert Kenneth Daniels. They raised their three sons in Fayette, Iowa and later moved to Las Vegas, Nev.

Donna and Bob owned and operated the Daniels Drug store in Fayette while raising their three boys.

Donna was an active member of the PEO Sisterhood throughout her life.

She enjoyed socializing and playing cards with her many friends.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, husband, and three grandchildren.

Richard “Dick” Schnor, 86, of West Union, Iowa died Tuesday, Jan., 1, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa. Dick was born on April 20, 1932, to Albert and Iona (Jarchow) Schnor in Wadena, Iowa. He went to country school until the eighth grade. Dick then went to help with the family farm near Volga, Iowa. At the age of twenty, Dick Joined the United States Army and served in Korea for eighteen months. He was in the 6th Armed division where he built tent kits and cleared mines.

Evelyn M. Opperman, 94, of Hawkeye, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Unity Point Health/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Jerome Godson officiating. Burial will follow at the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wed., January 9th at Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.

Edna J. Engelhardt, 98, of Monticello and formerly of Hawkeye, died Friday, January 4, 2019, at the Monticello Nursing & Rehab.

Funeral services were  held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Larry Trachte officiating. Burial followed at Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation preceded the funeral at the church. Memorials may be made in Edna’s name to Christian Crusaders, 7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.

Gerald Kling passed away on December 25, 2018 at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Prague Oklahoma. 

Gerald was born in Davenport, Iowa, on April 27, 1943 to Leo and Loretta (Marten) Kling. On December 27, 1960, Gerald married the love of his life Mollie Martin, together they had 4 children. Gerald went on to own his own Union Painting business, until he retired to enjoy his grandchildren and stock car racing.  Gerald had a personality that was larger than life. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, fishing, racing, horseback riding and passing on his love of cars.

Mary Chilton Richmond, 89, of Hawkeye, Iowa died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, from 3-7 p.m. with a 3 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before mass at the church on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Don Kombah as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye, Iowa.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.

Barbara (Boleyn) Meis, 83, of Florence, AZ passed away peacefully on December 18, 2018 with her husband, Tom, by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, after which Barbara will be buried in the Elgin Cemetery.

Barbara Kay was born in Elgin, IA, the daughter of Leo and Freida (Miller) Boleyn.  

She attended Elgin schools. 

She married Richard Chicken in 1951 and four children were born to this union: Dennis, Kurtis, Helen and Marcia. They later divorced and Barbara resided in CA, IA, and the last 40 years in AZ.

Barbara worked at various business jobs through her working years and finished her career as a realtor.

Michael "Mick" Schupbach, 70, of Lansing, formerly of Fairbank, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at his home in Lansing.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin.

Burial will follow at the Apostolic Cemetery, Elgin.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019) at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, and for one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elgin is helping the family with arrangements.
