Marilyn Julia Jorgenson, 90, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 27, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Cumming, Georgia, following a period of declining health. Over this past year, as a “Southern Lady”, she became an Atlanta Braves fan (especially Riley), ate boiled peanuts, enjoyed sunning out back watching the golfers on the 15th hole, grew to understand most southern accents, enjoyed visiting with her many southern friends, old and new, and the numerous visits from all her children, spouses, and grandchildren, much to Lynda’s delight.

Canton, North Carolina - Loretta Wiehr was 94 years old when she passed away on the evening of the blue moon on August 31, 2023 in her sleep.  

Loretta was born July 10, 1929, on a farm 3 1/2 miles NE of West Union, Iowa near Dutton’s Cave where as a child she would walk the cows to pasture.  She is preceded in death by her parents W.F. and Hulda Mittelstadt, sisters Wilma (3 years old) and Ruth (9 years old), step-sister Laura, step-brother-in-law, I.M Westendorf and husband, Ralph H. Wiehr.  

Leaving behind to mourn her are her only daughter, Colleen Foxwell and husband, Allan, of Amery, Wisconsin; granddaughters, Michaela Gifford of Menomonie, Wisconsin and Michelle Brown of Asheville, North Carolina; great grandsons, Elijah Stuart, of Menomonie Wisconsin and Ellis and Barrett Brown of Asheville, North Carolina; and sister, Sophie Bell of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Luella A. Stolka, 95, of Wadena, Iowa, died Monday morning, September 4, 2023, surrounded by family, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga, Iowa, with Rev. John Haugen officiating. Visitation was 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Parish Scripture Service: 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Private Family Interment was at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Fairbank, Iowa.

Dean Clarence Johnson, 70 of Clermont, Iowa passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. Dean was born February 18, 1953 at the Winneshiek County Hospital in Decorah, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Peterson) Johnson.  He was baptized and confirmed at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. Dean attended Valley Community School in Clermont, Iowa and graduated in 1972. Dean proudly joined and served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1978.

On January 24, 1981, Dean was united in marriage with Bonnie Schulor at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. He was raised and lived his life in Clermont, Iowa. Dean drove semi for Warren Transportation for over thirty-nine years before retiring in 2019. In his spare time, Dean enjoyed trout fishing, listening to music and traveling to all 48 states and Canada.

Rodney John Numedahl, 43, of Ossian, Iowa passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah Iowa. He was born May 1, 1980 to Robert and Joyce (Meyer) Numedahl at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. He was baptized June 1, 1980  by Rev. George Bauman at Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa and confirmed April 30, 1995 at Stavanger Lutheran Church rural Ossian by Rev. Wayne Ellingson. Rodney attended South Winneshiek School. 

Rodney had a CDL and hazmat driver's license and drove for many companies, hauling liquid fertilizer, cattle, horses and hogs from down south to out west. He worked for various farmers doing custom work, field work, shocking weeds for organic farmers and working for Northeast Iowa Pumping service. Rodney thought the world of his nephews, Cashden and Westin and loved playing board games with them and teasing them.

Wilma Marie Clausen died Monday, August 21 at the age of 96.  She was born on May 28, 1927, in Butterfield, Minnesota.  Her parents were Elsie Becker Seavert and Louis Seavert.  She attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology on Minneapolis and became a lab and x-ray technician

On January 18, 1948, she married Robert (Bob) Clausen at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey, Minnesota.  They settled in Comfrey and Wilma worked at Comfrey Hospital as an office nurse.  

Bob and Wilma’s brother, Allen, purchased a grocery store in Comfrey. After fifteen years, the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota, and purchased a hardware store.

In 1969, Bob and Wilma moved to West Union, Iowa, where Bob secured work.  In 1971, Wilma worked at the Super Valu grocery store and retired in 2002.

Kenneth Robert Koester, 78, of Eldorado passed away on July 27, 2023. Services will be at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa on Friday, September 15th. Visitation at 9 a.m. with a service to follow at 10 a.m.

Kenneth Robert Koester was born December 15, 1944 to Charlie and Francis (Wagner) Koester. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. He attended North High School in West Union and participated in track and basketball, where he earned several accolades. Ken obtained a scholarship to the University of Iowa for track and field. He later transferred to Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where he got a degree and found the love of his life.

Luther Lorain Pugh, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born November 4, 1933 to Lorain Aldon Quinn and Lucille May (Stocks) Pugh.  Luther spent most of his childhood growing up on a farm between Littleport and Mederville, and graduated from Littleport High School.

Luther met the love of his life Marilyn West at the Mederville Dance Hall; deeply falling in love and later marrying on November 24, 1954. During this union three children were born. Over the years Luther and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to the various western states and fishing on the Mississippi River.  Yellowstone National Park and Devil’s Tower were two of their favorite travel visits. Luther was a jack of all trades and worked 29 years as the Maintenance Engineer for the Starmont School District before retirement.

Randall “Randy” John Bohr, 62, of Ossian, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at his home after multiple battles with cancer. Randy was born July 23, 1961 to Carl and Marilyn (Linderbaum) Bohr in Decorah, Iowa. He graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar, Iowa with the class of 1979.

Milford Stearns, 95, of Fayette, died Friday, August 18, 2023, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Milford, son of Alfred and Thelma (Baker) Stearns was born May 15, 1928, in Fayette, Iowa. He received his education in the Fayette Schools. Milford served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. He worked for Carnation which later became Nestle in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for many years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino riverboat, going for drives in the woods, watching air shows, eating watermelon and watching nature shows.
