Marilyn Shipton

Marilyn Shipton

 

Marilyn Joan Shipton, 78 of Clermont, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. She was born December 22, 1944 to Howard and Irene (Walvatne) Johansen in West Union, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. Marilyn attended Dover Number 1 country school in West Union, Iowa and graduated from North Fayette High School.

On December 15, 1972, Marilyn was united in marriage with John Shipton at her parent’s home in Clermont, Iowa. Throughout the years she worked at the Town Café and Conners Drug Store, both in West Union and Clermont Pin Company in Clermont. She enjoyed camping and working in her flower garden. Marilyn enjoyed quilting and belonged to the Ruth Circle at West Clermont Lutheran Church.

Surviving Marilyn are her husband, John Shipton of Clermont, Iowa; her brother, Leo (Louise) Johansen of Elgin, Iowa and nine nephews and two nieces.

Lucy Pauline (Bohr) Schissel died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. 

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, WI, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. 

Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

Lorraine Evangeline Livingston, 95, of West Union, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.

A Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Don Best as the officiant.

Burial will follow at the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena, Iowa.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union, Iowa is assisting the family with services.

Kaye Bergholt, 81, of Fayette, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette with Rev. Mike Jager officiating. Inurnment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Kaye’s name to the First United Methodist Church in Fayette or the Fayette Public Library.

Roseda “Lorraine” Krueger peacefully passed away on June 29th, 2023, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Lorraine was born on September 16th, 1934, in Alpha, Iowa, to Ralph and Wanda (Paul) Proctor. She grew up in the Alpha area and attended Alpha Schools, graduating in 1952. Lorraine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stapleton, of rural Waucoma.

On September 1, 1953, she was united in marriage to Rollin H. Krueger. They lived in Roswell, New Mexico, for a few years while Rollin was stationed there. Upon his discharge, they moved back to Alpha. To this union, two daughters were born: Denise Johnson and Susan Wolfs. For a few years, Lorraine worked at a newspaper in the Waterloo area. She also spent many years working at the Alpha Store and the Alpha Garage and Convenience Store. Lorraine also spent many years milking and farming alongside Rollin and doing whatever else needed to be done on the farm.

    Dennis Earl Wolfs was born October 26, 1945, to Joseph and Edythe (Jenkins) Wolfs, in West Union, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. He attended rural Dover #3 and West Union schools.  He worked for area farmers, and Addy Stepp in Muscatine raising watermelons. Later he would be found driving a can milk route for West Union Creamery.  When the can hauling went by the wayside because of bulk tanks, he found various other jobs at Elsheimer Meats, Mink Farm, and the Clermont Pin Company. Dennis found his niche in life when he started his own lawn mowing and snow removal service.  He was excellent at this type of work and his business boomed. He mowed and trimmed many cemeteries and lawns, plowed snow of many sidewalks, driveways- town and country.  Dennis was an avid gardener.  His tomato plants were always massive in size. At the age of 67, because of health issues, Dennis was forced to retire.

Arlene Frances Langreck, 85 of Hawkeye, Iowa died Monday, July 3, 2023 at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, Iowa. She was born September 1, 1937 to Paul and Agnes (Wieling) Schaufenbuel in rural Waucoma, Iowa. She graduated from Lawler High School, Lawler, Iowa in 1955.

Arlene was united in marriage with Herbert Langreck on April 21, 1958 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler. Five children were born to this union. She was a farm wife and a CNA at the New Hampton Hospital, New Hampton. Arlene belonged to the Holy Name Catholic Church of West Union and St. Francis Xavier of Hawkeye where she was a very active member and she also taught religion classes. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, being a Cub’s fan, playing the accordion and playing cards. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Charles Bruce McClintock, 85, of Elgin, Iowa passed away, Monday, July 3, 2023, at his home. Charles was born May 18, 1938, to Claude and Mary (Kassler) McClintock in New Lexington, Ohio. He graduated from New Lexington Public Schools in 1956. Charles proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1960.

Charles married Joyce Taylor in 1960 at Volga, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. They later divorced. Charles married Shirley Baldwin in 1975 at Mansfield, Ohio. Through the years Charles worked a variety of jobs which included making toilets for fifteen years at Borg Warner and driving truck for Perfection Company in Ohio. He enjoyed working on old farm machinery and hit and miss motors. He also restored an MGB in the 1980s. He listened to instrumental and country western music all his life.

Laura Patricia Franzen Lubka, 54, of Postville, Iowa passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 as the result of a tragic automobile accident.

She was the daughter of Helen Franzen, West Union, and the late Leo A. Franzen.  She was born September 8, 1968, in Palmer Hospital in West Union.  Laura was baptized and confirmed at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union.  She attended Hawkeye Elementary and Junior High in West Union.  She graduated with the North Fayette Class of 1986.

On September 12, 1986 Laura was united in marriage with Reginald Lubka at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. They were the proud parents of three children, Jennifer, Bridgette and Drew. They were later divorced.

Marian Wiltgen, 79 of Ossian, Iowa passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at her home. Marian Viola, the daughter of George and Viola (Kurash) Backes, Sr., was born January 18, 1944 in Winneshiek County, Iowa. She graduated from St. Luke Catholic High School, St. Lucas, Iowa, in 1962. Her first job after high school was working at Donlon Pharmacy in Decorah. Marian was a secretary for the Winneshiek County Public Health Office for many years. After her retirement, she worked for Blooms on Main in Ossian and helped with lunches at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Ossian. Marian was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Rosary Society, Gods Housekeepers, and Catholic Daughters.
