Sandra (Sandy) Kay Burkhart, 82, completed her journey to God on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.; following a brief illness.

 

Sandy is survived by her high school sweetheart, Kenneth of 63 years. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, IA on May 10, 1957.

 

Sandy is lovingly remembered by her son, Alan (Laurie) Burkhart, Hawkeye, and daughter, Jan (Jim) Hauer, Solon. Grandchildren Abby (Zach) Osborn, Ben Burkhart, Trent Blessing and Trevor (Maggie) Blessing, step-grandchildren John, Sydney and Saige Hauer and great-grandchildren Brooks Blessing and Baby Boy Osborn coming in November, and family dog Charlee.

Mary Catharine Belschner Fritz was born on May 27, 1931 to Gustave Louis and Lola Dee (Wilbur) Belschner.  She had one older sister, Marjorie.  She was raised on the family farm southeast of Hawkeye, Iowa.  In school, she was a standout student (valedictorian), athlete (conference champion basketball team), and musician (vocalist).  Following graduating from Hawkeye High School she attended Iowa State University, majoring in Home Economics.  She was a member of the Old Gold Singers and was a sought-after vocalist.

Luella “Tudy” Louise Meyer, 93, of rural Fort Atkinson, Iowa died Saturday, August 22, 2020 in Ossian, Iowa. Tudy was born on January 29, 1927 in Eldorado, Iowa to Fritz and Ella (Neumann) Lauer. She was baptized on February 20, 1927 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Tudy attended Eldorado School through the eighth grade and graduated from West Union High School in 1944. She worked in Oelwein making Sun Protectors for Life Boats during World War II. Later she worked in West Union as a Telephone Operator.

Reverend Joseph L. Hauer, 69, died Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Unity Point-Finley Hospital, Dubuque. 

Public visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 23, at Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Rd., Dubuque. Masks and social distancing are required. Private Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 24, at Church of the Resurrection, with Archbishop Michael Jackels presiding, and Rev. Thomas McDermott as homilist. Mass will be live-streamed on the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home Facebook page, and will remain available to view. Marie Catherine Monroe, age 88, of Ossian, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Marie Catherine Zweibohmer was born on February 22, 1932 to John and Justina {Klemmer) Zweibohmer, in Ossian, Iowa. She graduated from St Francis de Sales high school in 1949. While in high school, she was a member of the girl’s basketball team and worked at NiCandy Cafe.

Linda Kay (Biermann) Martin passed away on August 12, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Harlan and Shirley Biermann on November 21, 1948, in West Union, Iowa.

She graduated from North High School in West Union Iowa in 1966.On April 3, 1970 she was united in marriage to David Martin. They were married for 46 years until Dave’s passing in 2016. Together they had two children Shari and Bill.

Linda took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren supporting them by attending a variety of events.

She is survived by her children: Shari (Butch Ross) Rodriguez and Bill (Faye Witcraft) Martin; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother; Dan (Jewel) Biermann; sister: Susan (Jim) Valliere; uncle: Don (Mary) Chicken; Aunts: Joanne Waskow and Ida Chicken; several nieces and nephews and a close friend Melissa Thompson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the St Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. 

 The service will also be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/CFOSparishes

In consideration of concerns regarding Covid-19, social distancing and wearing of masks will be observed during funeral service.
