Alan John Steinlage age 73 of Ionia, IA passed on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System surrounded by family and friends.

Alan John was born February 25, 1946, to Al and Anne (Neusch) Steinlage in West Union, IA the third of eight children - seven beloved boys and the youngest a girl being Alan's favorite sister. 

Alan grew up on the family dairy farm just south of St. Lucas, IA. where he learned the value of hard work, love of family and began to develop his great faith.

Robert G. “Bob” Hackett, 85, of Salem, IA, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Family greeted friends Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 2–4 p.m. at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Service was held Monday, December 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Christian Outreach Church with Pastor Gary Van Nyhuis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Born April 29, 1934, in Fayette, IA, Robert Gordon was the son of Gordon Rile and Bernice (Older) Hackett.  He was a graduate of Fayette High School.  On January 28, 1956, Bob married Fran Irene Erue in Fayette, IA.

George H. Gerstenberger, 86, of Hazleton, Iowa died Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the home of his son in Holt, Missouri.

Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Deacon Jim Patera officiating.

Visitation was from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and for one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Rosary was at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Interment was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hazleton, Iowa.

Graveside Military Honors by the Iowa National Guard were held.

Leon “Lee” A. Hansmeier, 75, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, December 8, 2019, at his home. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 14th, at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion with visitation from 12 to 3:30 P.M., followed by a prayer service, time for sharing memories of Lee, a luncheon, and music with karaoke following. Burial will take place at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements for the family.

Nancy A. Goedken, 65, of Arlington, Iowa died Sunday afternoon, December 8, 2019 at home with her family at her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating.

Visitation will be held from  3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home Arlington.

Rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Parish Scripture Service is at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. Albert Cemetery, rural Lamont with military honors.

Clara Mae Stavnes Kruse, 93, of Postville, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society in Postville. Clara was born Dec. 20, 1925 to Gregory and Hazel (Strike) Sheehy in New Hampton. She graduated from New Hampton High School.

 

Clara was united in marriage with John Stavnes in May 1946 in Waverly. Together they farmed for more than thirty years near Castalia. They retired and moved to Postville in 1974. John passed away in 1977. Clara was united in marriage with John Edward Kruse in April 1983, and they resided in both Monona and Sarasota, Florida until John’s death in 1997.

Tom Hayzlett, 77, of Hazleton passed away Friday November 29, 2019.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  There will also be visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m..  Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at rural West Union.  A memorial fund has been established.  For condolences, please visit www.geilenfeldfh.com.

Thomas Lee Hayzlett was born April 20, 1942 in Independence to parents Don and Doris (Angel) Hayzlett.  He graduated from Jefferson High School in Independence with the class of 1961.  On May 21, 1964 he was united in marriage with Ruth Ann Kohls at First Baptist Church in Independence.

Elaine Myers age 81 of Waucoma, IA died Monday, November 18, 2019, at MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center. 

A Memorial Mass was held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma with Rev. Dan Knipper Celebrating the Mass. Burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waucoma. 

Friends greeted the family from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma, where there was be a 3:30 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish scripture service. Elaine was born on April 28, 1938, in Waucoma, IA, the daughter of Charles and Ottie (Vaughn) Kappes. At the age of four, the family moved to Evansville, IN. She attended public schools and graduated high school in 1956 from Central High School in Evansville, IN.

Madonna T. O'Connell, age 89 of Mason City, IA, formerly of Lawler, IA, died peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the Muse-Norris Hospice in Mason City. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler with Rev. Aaron Junge celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Claire Heck

Claire Heck

 

Claire Heck (Clara Mae Heck) died Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 4 p.m. of natural causes at her Grand Meadows Glen apartment, Postville, Iowa.  She was 96 years young. 

Claire was born July 29, 1923 in Elgin to Florence French, and raised by her grandmother, Florence Baldwin.  Claire graduated as class Valedictorian from Elgin High School in 1940.  

After graduation, Claire received a job offer to work at the John Falb & Sons car dealership in Elgin.  Claire met Gerald (G.J.) Heck when he returned from naval duty in the South Pacific.  They married on July 12, 1947.  She and Jerry (Gerald) purchased a farm in Postville, and Claire became a full time homemaker.  She was one of the original-founding members of the West Post Project Club, served as President.  Claire was active in the Community Presbyterian Church and was circle chairman of Ladies Aide and participated on many church committees.
