Food Shelf meeting

      Fayette County Food Shelf Inc. board members will host the annual meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday, in the Fayette Community Library Community Room. The meeting will include an election of board members and other regular business.

NFV Awards Night May 14

      North Fayette Valley graduating seniors who have applied for scholarships and meet the requirements will receive scholarship awards at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May14, at the annual NFV Awards Night at the high school. All parents, families, friends and donors are welcome to attend the program and reception following the event.

NFVCC meeting held

NFVCC Board Member

      The North Fayette Valley Community Coalition (NFVCC) met Tuesday, April 2, at the Elgin location. The meeting was also available via Zoom.

      Action plans were discussed as well as various grants such as the Drug Free Communities efforts. TIPS (Training Intervention Procedures), which are part of community action planning to assist merchants in the community was addressed. The NFVCC encourages multiple people and groups to be involved with such efforts, as well as partnerships with community organizations such as the Iowa State Patrol.

WU spring cleanup

      The City of West Union will host its spring curbside cleanup Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 23. For a fee, eligible items to be picked up include car tires, large truck tires, appliances, televisions, computer monitors, printers, fax machines, copiers, chairs, tables, dressers, couches, mattresses and box springs.  

      The stickers that are required to be placed on the items, can be purchased from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, at West Union City Hall.

Westgate Spring Breakfast Sunday

      Westgate Fire and Rescue will host its Spring Breakfast Sunday. Serving will be from 7 a.m. – noon at the fire station. Cost is a free will donation.

      The dine in and carryout menu includes sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs, biscuits and gravy, French toast, fruit, pudding, cinnamon rolls and assorted beverages. Handicapped parking is available in the front of the building.

Card shower for Bruce Amundson 

Bruce Amundson will turn 60 years old on Tuesday, May 5. The family would like to honor him with a card shower. The goal is for him to receive as least 60 cards for the special occasion. You may join in this celebration by mailing a card to: 219 E. Charles St., Oelwein, IA 50662. 

As a follow-up to his birthday, a come and go celebration will be held at Clermont City Park from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11. 

Berg 60th anniversary

            Marvin and Diane Berg will be celebrating their 60^th Wedding Anniversary on Friday, April 19. The couple were married at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Cards can be sent to 245 S. Walnut St., West Union, IA 52175.

Lilli Gross turns 90

A 90th birthday celebration for Lilli Gross of Eldorado will be held  from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian. Those unable to attend but wish to send a card, may mail it to: Lilli Gross, 12656 Main Street, West Union, IA 52175.

Winneshiek County Dairy Banquet Friday 

      The 61^st annual Winneshiek County Dairy Banquet will be held on Friday evening at the Festina Parish Center, where a new generation of royalty will be crowned/capped and area dairy farmers will be recognized for their accomplishments.

      A meal will be served beginning at 7 p.m. with the awards program slated to start at 8 p.m. The program will include DHIA awards, several individual awards, scholarship presentations, and the crowning of the 2024 Winneshiek County Dairy Princess, Little Miss Squirt, and Little Mr. Herdsman.

WUFD Pancake Supper

      The West Union Fire Department will host its annual Pancake and Sausage Supper Thursday, April 18. Serving will be from 5-8:30 p.m. at the fire station. This is a dine in or carry out event. Cost is a freewill donation.
