Merryville meeting Tuesday

The Merryville Social Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. Sheryl Strothers will be the hostess.

Lima spring meeting 

The Lima Church and Cemetery Association will host its spring meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lima Church. Upcoming fundraising will be on the agenda. The public is invited to attend.

Conservation board meeting

The Fayette County Conservation Board will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Wildwood Office. 

Ossian citywide garage sales

      The Ossian Crown Club's and the City of Ossian's Annual Spring City Wide Garage Sales will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 9-11. It’s time to clean those closets and get your house, church or not-for-profit organization together to hold a garage sale.

WU 175th Anniversary Logo Contest

      West Union’s past, present and future will be recognized during the city’s 175th anniversary celebration scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27-Sunday, Sept. 29. In preparation for the event, the planning committee is hosting a 175th Anniversary Celebration 2024 logo contest.

      There is no fee for entering, but the winner must grant permission at no cost for the City of West Union to use the winning logo on various promotional and public relations materials and objects. A $200 prize will be awarded for the winning design.

Retirement open house

      The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will host an open house Thursday, March 28, celebrating the career of chief deputy Jim Davis.

      Davis is retiring after 24 years with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and 10 years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

      The event will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the sheriff’s office, located at 220 North Industrial Parkway, West Union.

Grief Support Group to begin Monday

      Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics will host an eight-week Grief Support Group beginning at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, for anyone who has experienced a loss.

      The Friends of the Elgin Library will host its 27th annual book sale Thursday, April 11-Saturday, April 13. Reading buffs will have a wide selection of items to choose from 1-5:30 p.m. April 11, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. April 12, and 9 a.m.-noon April 13. With a purchase, individuals may enter once during the three-day sale for prizes and gift cards.

Sheehan-Olson Legion Unit 375 celebrates

        Clermont Sheehan-Olson Legion Unit #375 recently held its 105-year celebration at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. The evening, which included a birthday meal, started with a welcome by Legion commander Rodney Wagner. In addition to the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer by Auxiliarly chaplain Ardith Barnes, a short program was presented by Wagner.

Vietnam Veterans coffee

      In recognition of National Vietnam Veterans Day on Friday, Clermont American Legion Sheehan Olson Post 375 invites veterans for coffee, donuts and fellowship at Lincoln Park. Serving will be from 7-11 a.m. at the Clermont park.
