Aaron and Benita (Patterson) De Zwarte of Knoxville wish to announce the birth of their son, Shane Andrew, who was born at 10:41 a.m. Dec. 31, 2017, at Pella Regional Hospital.

Shane weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. and measured 20½ inches at birth.

He is the couple’s first child.

Grandparents are Brien Patterson of Wadena and Brenda and Kevin Scott of Strawberry Point.

The family of Doris Saboe is excited to share that she will be celebrating her 90^th birthday in February.

Dick Schroyer

Richard “Dick” Schroyer, 82, of West Union, Iowa died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at his home in West Union, Iowa. 

Richard Allen was born April 5, 1935 to Otto and Victoria (Stahl) Schroyer in West Union, Iowa. 

He attended West Union School. 

Dick proudly joined and served in the United States Army from Jan. 15, 1958 to Jan. 13, 1964. 

Dick earned his GED in June 1975 from Northeast Iowa Area One Technical School and also received his EMT certification in January 1976.

Dick was united in marriage with Mary Gitch on Sept. 16, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Two children were born to this union.

Dick worked for the Iowa DOT and for Croell Redi-Mix as a truck driver, retiring in 1999 at age 65.

Dick was a member of Abate District 23 and Zion Lutheran Church.
