NFV cross country coaches were delighted with the results of Thursday’s State Qualifying Cross Country Meet in Monticello.

The TigerHawks finished with four runners in the top 15, qualifying each of them for the State Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge.

For the boys, Chandler Douglas was runner-up, and Caleb O’Hare and Weller Clark finished 13th and 15th, respectively.

For the ninth time this season, NFV was the smallest team on the football field. In the previous eight, the TigerHawks had been in every game with four or five plays being the difference between four more wins.

However, in Friday’s game at Waukon they were no match for the third-ranked Indians as NFV fell to 3-6 after a 40-22 loss.

The West Central football team hosted Springville on Friday night in Maynard, falling 55-16.

The Blue Devil receiver added a second touchdown in the third quarter as he scored on a 45-yard pass from quarterback Adam Dolf. Springville, however, added two more scores of their own to create a final score of 55-16.

A mere point separated the NFV and South Winn varsity boys’ teams after running the Upper Iowa Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday.

Turkey Valley was scheduled to host, but the recent heavy rains left the golf course in Jackson Junction in no condition to be used. Hence it was moved to West Union, which has the only course not on a golf course.

TigerHawk senior Chandler Douglas won with a time of 17:35.26. SW’s Paul Hageman was second in 18:12.25.

Overall, the top five Warriors finished second, third, sixth, seventh and 10th for a total of 28 points

Meanwhile, Douglas, Caleb O’Hare, Weller Clark, Jesse Daughton, and Weston Fantz finished first, fourth, fifth, eighth and 12th, respectively. Had the score been tied through five runners, NFV would have won since Davan Crooker placed 13th and his SW counterpart was 17th.
