South Winn baseball continued its dominant run in the UIC, beating Turkey Valley and Clayton Ridge.

The end of the week was more frustrating as SW lost to Beckman, ranked fourth in Class 2A.

In a short week of action, West Central split four games; both wins were in Postville.

Clayton Ridge was in Maynard on Monday, June 12 and it looked like the Devils would get the upset with a four-run eruption in the opening frame.

NFV kept pace with south Winn in the UIC softball race by winning four conference games, all on the road.

Unfortunately, there are no individual statistics available for any of  the games last week.

NFV baseball started a tough slate of games this week by beating Postville, 121-3 on the Pirates home diamond. 

The Monday, June 12 contest, had NFV leading 5-1 after two. Three outs later, the TigerHawks were up 20-1.

It was a good week for SW softball as the Warriors won four of five heading into the weekend tournament in Jesup.

The week saw SW open against West Central in Maynard on Monday, June 5. The Warriors swept both games, 11-0, and 16-4.

It was eight-ranked South Winn vs. top-ranked Mason City Newman, Tuesday, June 6, in Calmar.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to show why they are number one as they hit SW with three runs in the top of the first inning.

The Warriors fought back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from Keagan Streeter.

The very young West Central softball squad continued to learn on the job last week, but by week’s end they earned their second with a huge rally.

Monday, June 5, the Blue Devils hosted South Winn. WC lost both games, 11-0 and 16-4.

It was a case of lose the opener but win the nightcap for the NFV softball team during the regular week. Over the weekend. . . 

Monday, June 5, the TigerHawks travelled to Lansing for a twin bill against Kee High. 

It was NFV up 2-1 in the first and 3-1 in the third. Then, Kee hit a three-run third and added solo runs in each of the next three innings to win, 7-4.

SW upends Regina, 6-5

It was only early June, but it felt like a mid-July playoff game Wednesday, May 30, at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo as South Winn squared off against Iowa City Regina. Both teams are ranked in Class 1A.

It was a back-and-forth affair. The Warriors scored solo runs in the first three innings and in the fifth. Regina scored two in the second and in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.
