It seemed as if NFV had a picket row of hands at the net every time Waukon tried a kill during Wednesday’s Class 3A volleyball playoff match in West Union. District champs! New Hampton next

Tanner Kuhens pops open for a big gain for the TigerHawks Friday against Waukon. The senior scored three times in the 34-16 victory. One reason for the senior’s success is the huge hole blasted open by Brandon Wolfe (55) and Dylan Larson (80).

North Fayette Valley got by a determined band of Indians, 34-16, Friday night in West Union.

Now the TigerHawks will face New Hampton in the first round of the Class 2A District 4 playoffs.

The Chickasaws (8-1) are a familiar foe from the years when both teams were in the same district. The two teams have combined for some classic contests.

In the playoffs NFV will be the home team; playoff times for the first two rounds will be 7 p.m.

Friday’s final regular season game was over in the first 12 minutes as the TigerHawks scored 27 points in the first quarter and seemed to coast the rest of the way.

It took West Central the better part of three quarters to crack the Central Elkader defense in a 60-14 road loss Friday, Oct. 14.

Senior quarterback Brady Forsyth got the Blue Devils on the board with a two-yard scramble with 1:46 remaining in the third quarter. Jake Kuhens made the extra point, but he had missed a 33-yard field goal opportunity in the second quarter that could have gotten the Blue Devils on the board.

With three varsity and six JV runners earning medals, North Fayette Valley fared very well at the UIC Cross Country Meet Thursday at Starmont.

In the team races, the TigerHawk boys placed third with 80 points. SW and Starmont finished one-two with 23 and 35 points, respectively. The TigerHawks’ 80 points were well ahead of fourth-place Central’s 136.

For the second consecutive year, the meet included both varsity and JV runners. NFV head coach Tracy Nuss commented, “I like it because the teams get to run with all of their members, which can really get some of the runners going.”
