The TigerHawk boys won their fifth straight game on Friday night as they picked up a big conference win over Clayton Ridge.

The 1-point win put North Fayette Valley in sole possession of the runner-up spot in the Upper Iowa Conference, just two games behind MFL/MarMac (8-0).

NFV Bowling teams back on track with wins

The North Fayette Valley bowling teams both rebounded from their first losses of the season a week prior as the TigerHawks defeated Oelwein on Friday evening at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.

The NFV got things rolling with a 2,128-1,130 win over the Huskies in an effort fueled by Hailey Wurzer’s 336 series. She was followed up by Alexis Scholbrock with a 295, Brooke Burgin with a 294, and Anastasia Jones with a 266. All four of those athlertes scored higher than Oelwein’s top bowler.

The North Fayette Valley girls’ wrestling team was among the 25 teams to compete at the Oelwein Girls Invite on Saturday, placing 14th with 88 team points.

Leading the way was Gracie Kuhn who took first in the 140-pound B bracket with four wins via fall and a win via decision.

In one of their toughest tournaments so far this season, the North Fayette Valley boys’ wrestling team came home with a third place finish at the Hudson Invitational on Saturday.

Despite just having 10 wrestlers in competition, the TigerHawks scored 142.5 points – coming in behind only No. 2-ranked (Class 1A) Don Bosco and No. 5-ranked (1A) Nashua-Plainfield.

The South Winneshiek girls’ wrestling team competed at the Central Invite on Friday evening in Elkader. Up against a field of 30 teams from Iowa and Wisconsin, the Warriors came home 7th with 75 team points.

“We had two finalists in Isabelle Kipp, who won her bracket at 190 pounds, and Josie Hageman, who finished second at 110 pounds,” said coach Ethan Adams. “We had several other wrestlers finish in the top six in their brackets, which was an impressive feat considering there were so many teams in attendance.”

Warrior grapplers sixth at Tripoli Invitational

The South Winn boys’ wrestling team wrapped up its week Saturday with a sixth-place finish at the Tripoli Invitational. The tournament featured 11 teams – four of which ranked inside the top six of the Class 1A team rankings.

“Overall, our kids wrestled to their seed, but I think at the end of the day we could have performed better as we had several wins that we let get away,” said coach Jacob Elsbernd.

The South Winn girls’ basketball team picked up a 33-28 win over Clayton Ridge on Friday to improve to 2-8 on the season.

The Warriors and Eagles were tied at 13 apiece at the half, but a big third quarter helped the red and white pick up the win.
