TigerHawk track runners and field event athletes took part in the New Hampton Chickasaw Coed Track Invitational on Thursday as the boys took fourth and the girls finished sixth.

The boys scored 76.5 points and were led by a pair of first place finishes in the 3200 and distance medley. Peyton Halverson crossed the finish line at 10:55.83 in the 3200, while the relay team of Ayden Turner, Zack Robrock, Peyton Halverson, and Ben Miller finished in 3:56.15 in the distance medley.

The NFV girls earned silver medals in four events as they scored 80 points to finish sixth. Leading the way was Justine Cowley in the 200 meter dash (28.33 – 2nd), Alyssa Bohr in the 400 dash (1:03.43 – 2nd), and Ava Bilden in the 3000 (12:45.02 – 2nd). The 4x400 team of Bohr, Cowley, Bilden, and Jessia Francis also took second, finishing in 4:39.12.

The NFV boys’ track and field team took part in a 16-team meet at Jesup Tuesday (April 13), scoring 31.5 points and finishing 11th.

“It was a cold and windy night and our kids had a few bright spots at Jesup,” said Mark Nuss, head coach. “Our team placing could have very easily been five or six spots better. We need to get our athletes to understand that cold weather is part of this sport and mental and physical warm up is important.”

Both North Fayette Valley golf teams were in action last week, with the girls competing at New Hampton on Tuesday (April 13) and the boys hosting West Central on Thursday evening.

The girls shot a 250 to take fourth behind New Hampton (189), Crestwood (224), and Denver (233). Individual TigerHawk scores were not available at press time.

On Thursday, the NFV boys defeated West Central, 170-246, to improve to 2-0 in head-to-head play this season.

While the North Fayette Valley boys’ soccer team continued to play at a high level, the team suffered its first loss of the season Monday evening, April 12, as Hudson was able to win the match on penalty kicks in a shootout.

The South Winneshiek golf teams got out on the course for their first action in nearly two years. The boys edged Waukon thanks to a fifth scorer tie-breaker, while the girls fell, 213-250, to the Indians.

The South Winneshiek girls’ track and field team impressed at Jesup on Tuesday (April 6) as the Warriors scored 106 points to edge Starmont for the victory.

The South Winn effort was highlighted by six gold medals at the meet, many of which came from mid- to long-distance events.
