The North Fayette Valley girls’ basketball squad picked up right where it left off after returning to action for the first time since the holiday break. The lady TigerHawks added three more notches to the win column as the squad improved to a perfect 10-0 after wins over West Central, MFL/MarMac, and Waterloo Columbus last week.

The North Fayette Valley wrestlers took fifth place (103 points) at Saturday’s Flanagan Tournament, hosted by Crestwood High School. The day was highlighted by Kale Rodgers who picked up his 100th career win enroute to a runner-up finish in the 182-pound weight class.

The TigerHawks also got a valiant performance from senior heavyweight Jackson Blue who pinned his way (4-0) to a gold medal at the tournament.

The Warrior girls played their final game before the holiday break on Monday night (Dec. 21) as they welcomed the Clarksville Indians to town.

“It was a night where we were just two or three steps slower than them,” said coach Justin Izer after a 61-19 loss. “I thought we were not very sound defensively in the first half, giving up 43 points.”

The West Central girls’ basketball team picked up a pair of wins last week as it closed out the first semester portion of its schedule. The team beat Postville, 55-36, on Monday night (Dec. 21) and downed Oelwein, 56-19, on Tuesday night (Dec. 22).

Plagued by a tough fourth quarter, the West Central boys’ basketball team came up just short of picking up a win over Oelwein on Tuesday night (Dec. 22).

The Blue Devils got off to a hot start, carrying an 11-5 advantage into the second quarter. While the Huskies slowly chipped away at the lead, West Central maintained the lead through the first three quarters of the game.

The Warrior grapplers picked up three dual wins over the weekend as it went 3-1 at the Dike-New Hartford Dual Tournament on Saturday.

“It was a team effort once again with many kids stepping up at key moments in these duals,” said coach Jacob Elsbernd. “It was fun to participate in our first dual tournament of the season and it was a fun way to go into our holiday break.”
